Why Tire Pressure Matters

Your vehicle’s tire pressure is important for proper handling. When a tire is either under or overinflated, it can not only damage the tire, but it reduces traction. You want to get the most out of the contact the wheels make with the pavement.

When you don’t have enough air in the tire, it causes too much wear on the sides. That not only does irreparable damage to the rubber, but it creates a situation where your tire overheats. It has to work very hard to keep your car moving. On the flip side, when you put too much air in the tire, it can possibly burst the beads that maintain the treads’ structure. It creates a situation where only the center of the tire is making contact. That creates too much wear on that portion of the tire, and it also decreases necessary traction.
